Welcome to “Job Vacancies”

On this page are all the current vacancies available within the National Institutions of the Church of England, which is the collective name for the following eight managing employers:

  • The Archbishops Council
  • The Advisory Board for Redundant Churches
  • Bishopthorpe Palace
  • The Church Commissioners
  • The Church of England Pensions Board
  • Lambeth Palace
  • Trustees of the Lambeth Palace Library
  • National Society (Church of England) for Promoting Religious Education

The National Church Institutions [NCIs] are based in various Central London locations with the exception of Bishopthorpe Palace, which is based in York.

We will also advertise vacancies on behalf of other Church or charitable organisations. However, you will need to contact these organisations direct in order to obtain further information on any of their posts advertised on this web page.

For each position advertised within the NCIs a full job profile is produced comprising a job description and person specification. We do ask people to complete an application form, for which we issue guidance notes, and do not accept Curriculum Vitaes as an alternative.

Please note that we usually accept applications no later than the closing date shown for each post. To ensure a speedier service, please do e-mail us on [email protected] expressing your interest in any of the advertised posts. We will try to e-mail all the relevant documents back to you; these will be in a Microsoft Word 97 format. Please do include your full postal address in the event that this is not possible.

In order to meet the deadline, you can either email or fax the form to us in the first instance on +44 (0)20 7898 1072. However, we will need the original signed copy sent to us in the post.

The National Church Institutions aim to be Equal Opportunity Employers. We will therefore invite you to complete an Equal Opportunities Monitoring Form which is attached to the guidance notes and should be returned with your completed application form. This information on this form is strictly confidential and will be used only to monitor the operation of the equal opportunities policy.

To apply for any of the posts please ensure that you have permission to work in the United Kingdom. We will need evidence of this from any one of the following documents:

  • An official document showing your National Insurance Number a P45, P60, a recent pay slip or National Insurance card for example (but this must not be a temporary NI coding).
  • A British citizens passport or a passport showing that you have the right of abode (or entitlement to it) in the UK.
  • A birth certificate issued either in the UK, the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.
  • A European Economic Area (EEA) passport or national identity card showing you to be a national of that state (noting that many EEA states issue ID cards to foreign residents).
  • A passport sticker or stamp showing that you are exempt from immigration control or that you have indefinite leave to enter or remain in the UK or have no time limit on your stay. We may also accept a letter from the Home Office to this effect.

This web page is updated weekly so please do try again if there are no suitable vacancies currently advertised.
